Brett Nelson

sho_squret_02-0١I started my journey into the DIY finance and investing world one summer when I was stranded at university by myself. I spent my time at and away from work engrossed in podcasts and books that helped me educate myself.

By no means am I an expert in the finance sector. Instead, I wanted a way for me to grow my money at a better rate than the banks were offering. I had obviously heard about people making money through investing but I figured it would take a lot of work to learn about it. I decided to put in that work and am so happy with myself that I did.

I am currently a student at Simon Fraser University in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada. I am studying to acquire a major in Communications and a minor in Publishing.

If you’re wondering what qualifies me to provide investing education the answer is, well, nothing. BUT, I do know exactly how a newbie feels in this field, I understand how to break down the terms, and (unlike a financial advisor) I don’t receive money based on how many trades you make. Instead, I’m just interested in sharing the information I’ve found on my own.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me, I would love to hear from you!

sho_squret_01-0١I have always been interested in finding ways to turn my money into more money. When I was 16 I went to the bank and wanted to invest, but I didn’t know where to start. After buying some GIC’s I asked the employee at the bank what someone should do if they wanted to learn more about investment, and he recommended that I read the Intelligent Investor.

After reading the Intelligent Investor I began analyzing stocks for myself, looking at different valuation methods, and began listening to podcasts and continuing to read on the matter. After graduation I enrolled at Simon Fraser University, where I am currently studying as an Actuarial Science Major.

In my spare time, I’m an avid baseball fan and a member of the Simon Fraser University Varsity wrestling team, which competes in the NCAA Division II.
